At KidOvation Stage we believe that summertime is the best time to help Kid-O’s reimagine their world. This summer, we encourage you to consider these activities to foster fun and more creativity at home.
For a quick activity that doesn’t require too much prep, cut the face of an empty cereal box into equally sized pieces to create a simple puzzle. To add a personal touch, draw a picture first and paste it to the cereal box before cutting your puzzle pieces. Old posters and magazine covers work well too!
RACES AND RELAYS
STRAW RACE
Using straws, plates and a handful of cereal, you can have a race going in no time! To begin this game, place a handful of cereal on an empty plate for each player. Then provide each player with another empty plate to transfer their cereal pieces using their straw. The only rule is that you are only allowed to move the cereal pieces by sucking into a straw. The player who can transfer cereal pieces from one plate to another is the winner.
GET DRESSED RELAY
If your Kid-O’s just need to burn off some of that extra energy, this is the game to play! Grab some clothing items around the house and have your Kid-O’s race to get dressed. This game isn’t just fun though, it also helps with fine and gross motor skills, too!
CONCENTRATION GAMES
CUP STACKING
Plastic cups are great for exploring spatial concepts and building. You can work together with your Kid-O to build the tallest structure possible with your plastic cups or you can allow time for independent play. Either way, children love building and you’ll appreciate how easy it is to set-up and take-down.
NUMBER/WORD RECOGNITION
If you want to embed specific learning concepts into the activity time with plastic cups, then try numbering your cups or adding frequently used words (sight words) to the outside of the cup.
We hope you enjoy!
