Summer Camp.
Quarantine, and the resulting cancelation of summer as we know it, has made these two words quite anxiety-inducing, but it doesn’t have to be:
Here are some ideas that, we believe, will ease your mind as you manage summer at home.
FOLLOW THE CHILD APPROACH.
There are many philosophies and parenting strategies centered on following the child’s lead when it comes to their interests in exploring a particular content area. Allow your child to make decisions from a set group of choices. There are endless possibilities if camp is framed as an extension of play.
CHOOSE A HYBRID OF BOTH VIRTUAL AND LIVE EXPERIENCES.
Create a flexible checklist/schedule with other items your child may enjoy away from the computer and allow them to choose and engage in those activities.
ADD IN SOME OUTDOOR TIME/EXERCISE.
According to recent studies imagination, creativity and sharpened sensory abilities are just a few of the generous benefits of outdoor play. And it goes without saying that, a little daily physical activity is never a bad thing.
INVOKE CREATIVITY, WONDER AND A SENSE OF DISCOVERY & EXPLORATION.
Now is the time to deeply explore your Kid-O’s creative side. Let their imagination run wild!
AVOID OVER SCHEDULING. MODERATION IS KEY.
Prioritize the enjoyment of each experience over a strict adherence to a schedule. That means increased flexibility and making necessary modifications until you strike the right balance of learning and play. Trust us, your Kid-O will thank you for it.
